Colored by More

More red ink, and I leave believing I don't want to think

More red tape, and I'm looking to book it and escape

More of the same, and there's no way to go back

More of the same, cowering trying to brace for attack

More red lights and I'm trying to fly into the night

More red signs, and I'm reeling from the feeling of not being fine

More blue waters, and I leave believing it's only just starting

More blue roses, and I'm striving to keep the drive for these poses

More of the same, and I'm starting to forget all of their names

More of the same, trying to figure out where I've gone, and from where I came

More blue days, and I'm trying to fly off and get away

More blue times, and I'm clinging to my music and my rhymes

More green bills, and I leave believing money’s racking up kills

More green eyes, and I’m hiding my eyes to escape past ties

More of the same, and the same becomes a violent game

More of the same, trying not to be ferocious, but still untamed

More green leaves, and I’m falling from my calling off these trees

More green dreams, and I’m reeling from the feeling of being torn at the seams

More colors than I could possibly imagine

Painting me shades of unwanted feelings again

More colors than one could even start to comprehend

And I’m trying to figure out how this will all end

More colors than I have lines to write about

And it’s no wonder none of us can figure it out

More colors, more hues, more shades of more truth

And I can’t figure out why this doesn’t happen to you…

Far From And Falling Faster

One in a million says you’re feeling good,

And everyone says you really should

One hundred in counting but I’m not counting

Because none of them are really listening

You walk along, wishing for just one to hold

You grow distant from those who used to mold

They shout and they yell, and try to give you a hand

But alone in this land do you now stand

She ran up the mountains, while he sunk in the sea

And they will never have a chance to truly be

They went off to love, instead of going off to war

And at the end of the day, they’re not keeping score

If you’re out there and bound, but still broken

Don’t you worry, your last words have yet to be spoken

And if you’re far from it, but still falling faster

Don’t worry, because I’ll save you from this disaster

Just open your eyes, and see it isn’t that bad

Still pretty good, but not the best you’ve ever had

And one hundred to one says that I’m coming back

But one million to one says that I won’t attack

Gather round everyone, and we’ll try to see

Place your bets ladies and gentlemen, what’ll it be?

Given an option where you can pick one of these three,

Which one will it always end up to be?

—A dream in which you don’t want to wake up

—A reality you wish would one-day stop

—A mixture of both where you don’t have a say

The game is rigged, but at least you got to play

If you’re out there and bound, but still broken

Don’t you worry, your last words have yet to be spoken

And if you’re far from it, but still falling faster

Don’t worry because I’ll save you from this disaster

Somewhere out there is a bush that’s burning

And it’s looking to talk to those who’re yearning

Somewhere out there is a lake of fire

And it grows ever bigger with the more we desire

One in a million says we’re feeling good

And nobody ever gets to say what they should

One hundred in counting, but I’m not keeping track

So who wants to bet that I can’t get you back?

Somewhere out there is a lake I can cross

Stand on the waves and never be lost

Somewhere out there is a bush that’s aflame

If you just listen, it’s calling your name

And if you’re out there and bound, but still broken

Don’t you worry, your last words have yet to be spoken

And if you’re far from it, but still falling faster

Don’t worry because I’ll save you from this disaster

Take my hand and I’ll save you from this disaster

Masterpiece

Pencil sketches of someone we can’t find

Keep popping up to mess with our minds

Search high and low, but never discover

The unknown name of that graphite other

Watercolors painted on a canvas of black

Saturate an image your mind can’t get back

Search high and low, but never recover

The forgotten image now lost like the others

Ink blots on a page and a perfect world is seen

“It’s not there, you’re fooled”, is what they tell me

Focus and refocus, but never discover

That the ink misleads me like so many others

Oil based lives on a canvas of mostly water

And it’s no real surprise that we don’t work together

Focus and refocus, but never recover

The love we once had for one another

He looks down and paints His master peace

Do you think He expected it to turn out like this?

A perfect depiction of something He just wanted to love

So how did we stray so far from what He thought of?

Now tell me He still cares, as we stare up and pray

Longing for tomorrow not to end up like today

If you love something, then set it free

But that doesn’t mean ignore it completely

Words on a page that seem to set the stage

The final act can only be seen with age

Search high and low, but never discover

The meaning of something created by another

Bottles of ink, but they can’t say what you think

And in a world of mostly water it’s swim or sink

Search high and low, but never recover

The bottled messages from that distant lover

Photographs of a time when it existed

And we’re left wishing we hadn’t resisted

Focus and refocus, but never discover

Our picture of life taken by another

Pencil sketches of someone we can’t find

Keep popping into our troubled minds

Focus and refocus, but never recover

From this lost feeling that we are under

He looks down and paints His master peace

Do you think He expected it to turn out like this?

A perfect depiction of something He just wanted to love

So how did we stray so far from what He thought of?

Now tell me He still cares, as we stare up and pray

Hoping that things might stop going this way

For love to exist, the wills all had to be free

But I can’t help but feel we’re being ignored completely…

Music Like It Wasn't

She liked her men like she liked her music:

Loud, obnoxious, and left you feeling nauseous

And she could do better, perhaps a heart like his

And she never ceased to remind him of this

It wasn’t what she said, but how she said it

And it wasn’t how she said it, but what she did

And it wasn’t what she did, but when she did it

And it wasn’t how it started, but how it wouldn’t quit

He liked his women like he liked his music:

Moving, rhythmic, to make it almost euphoric

And he could do better, but he didn’t really want to

And he never ceased to be thinking about you

It wasn’t what he said, but how he never said it to her

And it wasn’t how he said it, but I guess it kind of was

And it wasn’t what he did, because he did everything for her

And it wasn’t how it started; it was how they weren’t together

She liked her men like she liked her music:

In her head, almost controlling, but never consoling

And she could do better, perhaps a soul like his

But she could never seem to understand this

It wasn’t what she did, but whom she did it with

And it wasn’t whom she did, but why she did it

And it wasn’t why she did it, but how she didn’t care

And it wasn’t that she didn’t care, but you can’t expect her to always be there

He liked his women like he liked his music:

Worldly, but low key, and absolutely free

And he could do better, perhaps in time he would

And he never ceased to believe that he really could

It wasn’t what he did, but how he always made you remember

And it wasn’t from whom he hid, because that could change whenever

And it wasn’t why he did it, because he did it to everyone the same

And it wasn’t that he didn’t care, it was just the way he played the game

They liked each other but there was never any music

Free flowing, glowing, but they had no way of knowing

And they could do better, though neither really could

But they never ceased to threatened the other that they would

And it wasn’t what was wrong, but why it was wrong

And it wasn’t why it was wrong, but how it had been so long

And it wasn’t really that they hated each other

It was simply that we were never meant to be together
