Riley Adieu

Gather round and I will tell you

A story about a girl, sweet Riley Adieu

Brought up in a world made to make haste

Try as she may she couldn’t ditch the taste

Grew up on a whim in a fanciful way

But never gave in to what others would say

Went her own way but remained standing still

Wishing there was more time to kill

Poor, poor Riley Adieu

You can’t sit and wait on a world you knew

Poor, poor Riley Adieu

You can’t sit and wait for the world to find you

Frequently victim to a repeatable demise

Ate out her heart, and bawled out her eyes

Stood in the world like a statue so bold

Yet nothing was moving under the mold

A damsel in distress awaiting her prince

If only the others, she could convince

Lost in a world, the same size as her head

Wondering why, upon this road, she was led

Poor, poor Riley Adieu

You can’t sit and cry for the thought of two

Poor, poor Riley Adieu

You can’t sit and wait for him to find you

And as time passed more fears she amassed

Keeping her constantly going nowhere fast

Adopting the mantra that guided her fate

That good things come to those who wait

A question to her, was posed indiscreetly

“Could your head ever be organized and then kept neatly?”

Her reply was nonexistent and never did show

Because in her head, she knew she didn’t know

Poor, poor Riley Adieu

You can’t sit there and expect it to happen to you

Poor, poor Riley Adieu

You can’t sit and wait for yourself to find you

One day she was waiting, and the next the same

She was truly the victor of her own strange game

And one day he came knocking, and she answered the door

Opened up optimistic but closed quickly for more

She never did find what she dreamed would last

While he came and went but eventually passed

Alone in her world, still hopeful for something

She waited and waited, until she faded to nothing

Poor, poor Riley Adieu

You can’t sit and hope that the world will come through

Poor, poor Riley Adieu

You can’t imagine the love you almost knew

Adieu, Riley, Adieu…
